Den Leaders: Antoinette Levine, Eric Holquist, & Roy Jensen Den 3 (aka the Scorpions) is a Webelos Den. We meet every other Monday evening from 7-8PM at Our Lady of Peace Church. Over the summer we worked on the Aquanaut badge at the Lynbrook Village Pool. Many of the boys also participated in Cub Parent Weekend in July. We camped at Schiff Scout Reservation from Friday evening until Sunday morning. The scouts were kept very busy all weekend participating in many fun activities such as fishing, archery, swimming, making crafts and doing skits around the campfire. The boys will be working towards earning the Arrow of Light this year as they prepare to move onto Boy Scouts in Feb. at our Blue & Gold ceremony. Our den recently participated in the Webelos Woods camping weekend at Schiff Scout Reservation. The boys had a great time doing various activities such as archery, knot tying, pitching tents, building campfires, roasting marshmallows and doing skits. We are currently working on the Scientist Badge. The boys are learning various scientific principles and doing lots of fun experiments. We will also be completing the requirements for the Athlete Badge. Our den recently went to Tanglewood Preserve where we worked on the Naturalist Badge. We learned about various plants and animals that are found in our area. The boys were even able to take pond samples which they examined with magnifying glasses. We have completed the Engineer Badge. The boys visited a house that is under construction and met with the builder. He showed them the architectural plans and explained how a house is built. The boys drew their own floor plans as well. In addition, they learned about electricity and built electrical circuits. The scouts especially enjoyed constructing bridges with popsicle sticks and building marshmallow-throwing catapults. In January, we worked on the Fitness Badge and learned about the food pyramid and making healthy food choices. We also learned about the dangers of drugs and alcohol. The boys will be receiving their Fitness Badges at the Feb. pack meeting.
We also started working on the Engineer Badge. The boys visited a house that is under construction and met with the builder. He showed them the architectural plans and explained how a house is built. We will continue to work on the Engineer Badge throughout February.
